Driggers Family History
Spelling Variations: Drigghouse, Drighouse, Driggs, Driggus, Rodriguez, Rodriggs, Rodriggus, Rodrigus, Driger & Griggs
Driggers/Rodriguez Family Origin: Iberian Peninsula, Portugal, Spain
There has been much confusion of the Driggers Ancestry. Most claim that the Driggers surname originated from either Germany, England, Scotland or Ireland. This may be true for some people; however, my family tree is affirmed that my Driggers Ancestry is derived from the surname "Rodriquez" which then is located in South-Western Europe, on the westernmost country of mainland Europe, being bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the West & South and by Spain to the North & East.
Emanuel Driggus (surname was possibly derived from Rodriguez) was the very first ancestor of the Driggers, is among the first Africans in this country whose biographies can be constructed from the records of the period. His name came to be Anglicized as he became a free man. In 2011, a documentary, "The Slave Experience: Family", was aired on PBS, describing Emanuel’s life as a slave and how he loved his family.
